The Stars and Night Sky

There is so much to see in the night sky above us, if we only have eyes to look.

For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with the night sky. When I was a teenager, I would spend time with my friends, talking late into the night, staring up at the stars, watching for meteors, satellites, and just gazing at the seemingly empty abyss stretching out above us.

When I got my first digital camera in 2006, one of the first things I did was try to capture the night sky. It didn’t go so well, as I lived in an area with a lot of light pollution, but even then I was excited by what I could see on the camera.

In 2010, I moved to a very rural part of Utah, and kept noticing that there was this cloud in the same part of the sky every night. One night, as I was walking to my car, I stopped and suddenly understood what I was seeing as I gazed into the deep blacks and bright whites of our galaxy spread out across the sky above me. From that moment on, it became my obsession to see it as often as possible, and to start finding beautiful places I could capture it.
